1. Choose puppies born around 40 days old. Because the puppies during this period have not yet left their mothers, they play a vital role in cultivating the relationship with their owners in the future. Great Pyrenees have a strong memory for their first owners after leaving their mothers, so much so that they can still recognize and maintain feelings for them even if they are separated for many years. However, it should be noted that since the appearance of dogs before 5 months old has not been determined in all aspects, there is a certain risk, so you have to make a choice after carefully weighing it.

2. The head of the Great Pyrenees must be wedge-shaped, wide at the top, narrow at the bottom and long. The muzzle of a male Great Pyrenees should be broad and should not be too slender. The incisors should lightly cover the front 1/3 of the mandibular incisors, making close contact like scissors. The gap between the maxillary incisors and mandibular incisors is very small.

3. The Great Pyrenees’ ears and nose should be erect. The nose should not be too long and should have a certain width. The nose should be black.

4. The best color for Great Pyrenees is dark eyes, almond-shaped eyes and upright ears. The eyes must be black, clear and transparent, and not turbid.

5. The typical coat color of the Great Pyrenees is black on the back and yellow on the belly. Some have white spots on the chest, usually mostly dark brown. There are also wolf-gray Great Pyrenees, but rarely; there are black spots around the muzzle. Most people prefer black and brown dogs. In fact, the wolf-gray Great Pyrenees have the best endurance when working under the scorching sun.

6. The chest of the Great Pyrenees should be as deep as the elbow, the knees should be slightly bent, and the abdomen should be slightly retracted. The testicles of the male Great Pyrenees should be visible, and should not be cryptorchid or single testicles.

7. The limbs should be strong and the gait should be steady and comfortable. When selecting, the puppy should be allowed to walk around. If after running a few steps, the hind limbs merge together and jump, it may be injured. Check whether the limbs are level and forward, and there is no internal or external posture.

8. Pay attention to whether the parents are in good condition and choose the strongest Great Pyrenees in the litter. Choose a dog that neither shrinks from strangers nor is aggressive.

9. You should choose puppies with pure coat color and less variegated colors. Choose a puppy with rich hair that feels good when you grab it and can bounce away automatically. During this period, there may be a small amount of lanugo hair on the ears, which does not affect the view and can be purchased.
