When it comes to giving medicine to cats, many cat owners will shake their heads. For some cats, it is really too difficult. They can’t grab it, open their mouths, or put it in. Sometimes they even struggle because of it. It was too powerful and accidentally injured the owner.

In fact, there are techniques for giving medicine to cats. If you learn the following techniques, the success rate of feeding medicine can be as high as 95%, and it is very effortless.

Preparation before giving medicine

This step is for cats that are struggling: the towel restraint method:

For cats that cannot stay in the arms obediently and can struggle with their hands and feet, using a towel to restrain them is the best tool to prevent the cat from escaping or attacking. The technique is as shown in the picture, ensuring that only the cat’s head is outside and its hands and feet are wrapped. At the same time, the soft towel will also give the cat a certain sense of security.

Confirm the nature of the drug

Medications are generally divided into pills, potions, ointments, and medicated powders.

Among them, pills are actually the best to feed, but you need to pay attention to whether the pills are too big and whether they are easy to swallow.

Potion: Feeding potion requires a syringe with the needle removed, so please prepare it in advance. Or mix it in food (but potions usually have a special smell, and cats usually won’t be fooled)

Medicinal powder and ointment: You can dissolve it in water and use a syringe, you can also apply it on the cat’s nose and let it lick it off, or mix it in the food.

Choose a feeding method

The first type: deception method (suitable for pills):

Put the medicine inside the cat’s favorite snack, such as stuffing the pill into the cat strip, so that it can eat it without anyone noticing.

The second method: direct application method (suitable for ointments):

Apply the ointment on the cat’s nose so that the cat has to lick it in. However, some cats will be very stubborn and use their claws to peel it away. At this time, the next method is needed.

The third method: syringe filling method (suitable for potions and melted powdered ointments):

Insert the syringe behind the cat’s canine teeth, and then push the medicine. Be careful not to use too much at one time, as it may leak out easily. If your cat spits or vomits as soon as it drinks the medicine, it may be that the medicine is too bitter. Push the syringe a little further toward the throat and try again.

The fourth method: Direct feeding method: (suitable for tablets)

If the cat is very smart and can tell that there is medicine in the snacks as soon as he smells it, then he needs to come directly.

Technique: Press both sides of the cat's mouth with your thumb and index finger, then gently pinch the cat's mouth open. Use the other hand to stuff the medicine into the cat's throat at lightning speed, and quickly pull it away. At the same time, close the cat's mouth and stroke it gentlyPress the cat's chin or blow into the nose and let the cat swallow naturally.
