Cause of Brucella canis:

Contact and respiration of the dog’s nasal cavity with abortion products may be the main mode of transmission of the disease. Male dogs’ semen and Urine is also considered a source of infection.

Diagnostic criteria for canine Brucella:

In male dogs, the clinical symptoms of brucellosis are not very obvious. In female dogs, vaginitis and open pyometra should be considered. Acute neurological symptoms, disc herniation and discitis are occasionally seen in sick dogs.

Methods to prevent canine Brucella:

1. Keep the dog’s living environment hygienic.

2. When walking your dog, do not let your dog come into contact with unclean food and water.

3. When breeding, quarantine the two dogs and confirm their health before breeding.

4. Canine brucellosis is a zoonotic disease. Once a dog is found to have this disease, it must be isolated immediately to prevent it from being transmitted to other dogs and people.

Treatment methods for canine Brucella:

1. Tetracycline 25 mg/kg body weight, mixed with 5% glucose injection for intravenous infusion, 2 times/day ; Or oral tetracycline, 50 mg/kg body weight, 2-3 times/day.

2. Oral administration of oxytetracycline tablets 0.1 g/kg body weight, 2 times/day.

3. Kanamycin sulfate, 50,000 units/kg body weight, 2 times/day.

4. Gentamicin sulfate, 8,000 units/kg body weight, 2 times/day.

5. Oral vitamin C, 10-15 mg/kg body weight, 2 times/day, vitamin C 3 mg/kg body weight.

In addition to antibiotic treatment, infected pets should be isolated to reduce the chance of infecting other dogs or people.
