Diagnostic methods for foreign bodies in canine esophagus:

1. Observation status

When something gets stuck in a dog’s esophagus, adverse reactions such as shortness of breath and difficulty will usually occur. In severe cases, you may even gasp for breath, cough frequently, and vomit. At this time, the owner should first give the dog some warm water and vinegar to soften the foreign matter stuck in the esophagus, and then take the dog to the doctor.

2. Endoscopy

When the owner suspects that something is stuck in the dog’s esophagus, he can take the dog to a regular pet hospital and ask a professional veterinarian to use an endoscope to examine the dog. In the dog's esophagus, if a foreign object is seen through the endoscope, there must be something stuck in the dog's throat.

3. Take X-rays

If the dog frequently gasps and vomits, but cannot spit out anything, and no abnormality can be seen with an endoscope, it is likely that the dog has been extremely abused. Small foreign objects, such as nails, broken bones, and glass shards, get stuck in the throat. At this time, it is necessary for the owner to take an X-ray of the dog to confirm whether there is any foreign object in the throat.

Treatment methods for foreign bodies in canine esophagus:

1. Through endoscopy, you can use the endoscope’s clip to crush the foreign body and then remove it.

2. When the foreign body is located in the esophagus close to the stomach, if the foreign body is not a sharp object, it can be pushed into the stomach and then a gastrotomy operation is performed to remove the foreign body.
