Toxoplasmosis is an infection caused by an extremely tiny parasite called Toxoplasma gondii. Pregnant mothers can take the following simple measures to prevent toxoplasmosis infection when in contact with their dogs and tabby cats:

1. Clean the food bowl and feces at least once a day

2. Do not touch the feces of tabby cats directly. If you want to clean up the feces yourself, be sure to wear gloves

3. Do not let tabby cats sleep Keep them clean in human bedding

4. Do not kiss dogs or tabby cats

5. Tabby cats should be kept indoors and fed cooked food or ready-made tabby cat food. Don't let them go out to hunt. Infections in tabby cats are often caused by ingestion of contaminated food.

In other daily life, expectant mothers should also pay attention to:

1. Eat fully cooked meat, and be careful when eating hot pot and shabu-shabu meat. Because in terms of the source of human infection, infection from tabby cat feces is not as common as eating undercooked meat.

2. Wash your hands before and after processing raw meat, and clean used tableware and cutting boards.

3. Wash the vegetables and fruits you eat thoroughly.

4. Avoid eating unpasteurized dairy products.

5. If working in the yard, always wear rubber gloves and keep the gloves separately.

6. After eggs containing infectious Toxoplasma gondii are expelled, it may take at least 24 hours before they can infect humans. If washed daily, the chance of infection can be greatly reduced.

7. If a tabby cat lives entirely indoors, eats tabby cat food and other cooked foods, and has never been in contact with mice, it may never be infected.

8. A tabby cat excretes this organism in its feces only once in its life, that is, after it is first infected. Dogs infected with Toxoplasma gondii cannot be transmitted to humans, so there is no need to worry about this at all.
