When dogs are pregnant and miscarry, they usually experience increased vulvar secretions, obvious abdominal pain, and may have symptoms of dark brown secretions, blood clots, or even purulent secretions. At the same time, the dog's mental appetite will also decrease, and serious infections may occur, causing the dog to have high body temperature. As the fetus stops developing, the dog's abdominal circumference will no longer increase, the mammary glands will also stop developing, and there will no longer be milk secretion. Some dogs may not show clinical symptoms and the fetus is absorbed or infiltrated.

The symptoms of dog pregnancy and miscarriage are usually divided into the following aspects:

1. Dogs that give birth before the delivery date may give birth to a dead fetus.

2. Vulvar bleeding may occur, or even purulent or dark brown discharge due to fetal dissolution and absorption.

3. Blood and fetal remains will flow out of the dog’s vagina, accompanied by strong pain and discomfort.

4. The dog’s pregnancy symptoms disappear, such as lethargy and increased food intake. In addition, dogs may become depressed, lose appetite, and have elevated body temperature.

Note: It is recommended that when the owner discovers that the dog has the above symptoms during pregnancy, he should take it to the pet hospital for examination in time to confirm whether there is a miscarriage. If the fetus is still alive, the pregnancy can be allowed to continue. If no remaining fetus survives, oxytocin will be given to expel uterine contents, sometimes along with antibiotics. In severe cases, uterine and oophorectomy may be required.
