If your dog is poisoned, you first need to determine the status of the dog, and then determine the next step. If the dog's mental state is relatively normal and the poison has not been ingested for a long time, it is recommended to induce vomiting in time to reduce the absorption of toxic substances, and at the same time, use detoxification substances for treatment of the ingested toxic substances in a timely manner. If the dog has ingested poison for a long time and has symptoms such as convulsions, foaming at the mouth, and stiff limbs, it means that the poison has entered the blood circulation. At this time, there is no point in inducing vomiting. You can only take the dog to the pet hospital as soon as possible to strengthen the body's metabolism through infusion.

1. The poison was ingested for a short period of time

If the dog's mental state is relatively normal and the poison has been taken for a short time, you can consider gastric lavage or vomiting, and then treat it based on the dog's examination results. Generally, copper sulfate solution with a concentration of 1% to 2% is used to induce vomiting. Concentrated salt water and light soapy water can also be used to induce vomiting. If the dog has begun to vomit, convulse, etc., you cannot wash the dog's stomach or induce vomiting at this time, otherwise it will cause the dog to have symptoms such as shock. Generally, thorough gastric lavage is the most effective method within 2-4 hours after poisoning.

However, this method cannot detoxify and can only prevent excessive toxins from entering the dog's body. After inducing vomiting in your dog, you still need to take your dog to the pet hospital for further examination and treatment. Do not think about observing it for a while, otherwise it will easily delay the condition.

2. The poison has been ingested for a long time and clinical symptoms appear

If the dog has ingested poison for a long time and has symptoms of poisoning, such as vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions, ataxia, drooling, etc., the dog must be taken to the pet hospital for rescue in time. When sending the dog to the doctor, it is best for the owner to explain to the doctor the dose of poison the dog ingested, the time of ingestion, and whether any emergency measures were taken, so that the doctor can investigate the cause as soon as possible.

Note: If the owner finds that his dog has eaten toxic substances at home, he can use soapy water to induce vomiting. However, you still need to send the dog to the pet hospital in time and let professional doctors detoxify the dog and treat it symptomatically. This is the most effective measure.
