Symptoms of feline coccidiosis:

The main symptoms are dehydration, depression, loss of appetite and fever, as well as the discharge of diarrheal feces mixed with mucus and blood. Wasting occurs with diarrhea lasting several days. After a cat is infected with coccidia, symptoms will begin to appear after an incubation period of 7 to 8 days, and most will recover after about 30 days. If there is a secondary bacterial infection, the condition will worsen, and additional antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs will be needed. Additionally, many cats shed oocysts without exhibiting any symptoms. Immunity can be acquired over a period of time after infection, and no treatment is required for these cats.

Treatment of feline coccidiosis:

Some cats will recover naturally because of their strong immunity. However, kittens and old cats that lack immunity must be sent to a pet hospital for treatment immediately. Delay in treatment may lead to the death of the cat. Conventional deworming cannot kill coccidia. Generally, deworming requires continuous medication for one week to ten days.

Causes of coccidiosis in cats:

1. First of all, it may be due to maternal infection, especially kittens in the lactation period are more susceptible to coccidiosis.

2. Secondly, it may be an indirect infection, such as eating unclean food or touching something with coccidial eggs, which makes it easier to be infected with mites. Therefore, it is recommended that owners can only take their cats to a local regular pet hospital for deworming treatment in time.
